THE MOST COUNTRIES TEAMS PARTICIPATED IN THE 44TH CHESS OLYMPIAD.
               FIDE organised the first Chess Olympiad in 1924, with 16 countries participating. The last 43rd Olympiad Chess Tournament was held in China, and the number of registered teams increased from 180 to 185, with women’s 151 teams representing only 146 federations. Now The Fédération Internationale des Échecs recently organised the 44th Chess Olympiad (also known as the Chennai Chess Olympiad) (FIDE). The tournament included open and women’s categories, as well as several events aimed at promoting the chess game, and was held in Chennai, India from July 28 to August 9, 2022. The tournaments’ opening ceremony was initiated by our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, inspects the Chess arrangements. There were 1,737 total participants, with 937 in the Open and 800 in the Women’s event. In the Open section, 188 teams from 186 countries registered, while 162 teams from 160 countries registered in the Women’s section. Both sections set new highs for team participation. The country participation count was designed to cover the entire globe. The country’s participation in the 44th Olympiad event is a new world record. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies.
